Historic tour traces steps of mobsters from Little Italy to Williamsburg
Find out about the 1928 murder of gambler Arnold Rothstein and other mobsters in a special historic mob tour that starts in Little Italy and ends in Brooklyn.
NYC Mob Tour has created an evening of Cosa Nostra fun scheduled for tomorrow that will let participants go back to a grittier time when New York was run by the Mob.
The tour will include looking for "something very precious that belonged to notorious East Side Jewish thug Monk Eastman, a quiz hosted by the brilliant accountant to the mob syndicate Meyer Lansky, a dice game with the most notorious gambler in American history, Arnold Rothstein, and a bootleg liquor run with the wildly unpredictable ladies man Benjamin (Bugsy) Siegel," said the tour creator and leader, Gideon Levy.
There is room for 40 wanna-be wiseguys, divided into four teams, who will vie for door prizes and keepsakes while traveling by foot around the city.
The fun starts in Little Italy at 5 p.m., and ends up in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. It'll cost $15 in advance or $20 in person to participate.
"History tours are all about looking back on something that has already happened and gone," Levy said. "This is even better - bringing the history back to life, and feeling like you are part of a more wild and dangerous time in New York's history."
Levy, 29, has a wealth of Mafia information to share. He has been infatuated with gangland history and heritage since he was a child.
"It all started when I was 13 years old, when I tried on my first suit," he said. "I just looked like a tough guy in it and I wanted to shake some people down. So I started getting into gangster movies and gangster culture."
